Kyle Tucker Delivers First Walk-Off Hit With Dodgers in Dramatic Win Over Marlins
Kyle Tucker delivered a signature moment for the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night, collecting his first walk-off hit with his new club in a thrilling 5-4 comeback win over the Miami Marlins.
With the Dodgers trailing by one run in the bottom of the ninth and the bases loaded, Tucker lined a single up the middle to drive in the winning run. However, for a split second, the celebration paused.
After reaching first base, Tucker looked confused when Shohei Ohtani had not yet crossed home plate.
“I was like, ‘Did I get the score wrong?’” Tucker said after the game. Moments later, Dodger Stadium erupted as Ohtani scored and teammates rushed the field.
Kyle Tucker’s First Walk-Off Hit Could Spark Turnaround
The hit may prove bigger than one dramatic win.
Tucker entered the game amid a slow start after signing a four-year deal with Los Angeles. Despite drawing walks and making hard contact, he had struggled to produce consistent results. Entering the series, his slash line stood at .238/.325/.371, and he had dropped from second to fourth in the batting order.
Because of those struggles, Monday’s heroics could mark a turning point.
“He needed it,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “He needed a win.”
Dodgers Rally in Ninth Inning Stuns Marlins
For eight innings, the Dodgers offense lacked impact and failed to record an extra-base hit.
Then the rally began.
Back-to-back walks from Andy Pages and Dalton Rushing created momentum. Next, Ohtani ripped a ground-rule double into the right-field corner, cutting the deficit to 4-3.
The Marlins then intentionally walked Freddie Freeman to load the bases. After closer Pete Fairbanks exited with a thumb injury, reliever Tyler Phillips took over.
Although Will Smith struck out, Tucker stepped in with one final chance.
Kyle Tucker Adjusts and Delivers in Clutch Moment
Tucker entered his final at-bat hitless in four trips. Yet his previous plate appearance showed promise, as he scorched a 103 mph lineout.
Against Phillips, Tucker fouled off a low splitter. When he saw a similar pitch again, he waited longer and shot it just right of second base for the game-winner.
The hit marked Tucker’s fourth career walk-off hit and his first since 2023 with the Houston Astros.
Dodgers Teammates Celebrate Emotional Breakthrough
Even Tucker’s usually calm demeanor cracked after the win.
Roberts joked after the game, asking reporters one question: “Did he smile?”
The answer was yes.
Tucker smiled as he exchanged high-fives with first-base coach Chris Woodward. His grin grew when Freeman embraced him. It widened again as Dodgers teammates surrounded him in celebration.
“That’s nice right there,” Tucker said. “Any time I can contribute to the win, I’m happy for it.”
What Kyle Tucker’s Walk-Off Means for Dodgers
The Dodgers hope this moment jump-starts Tucker’s season.
After weeks of pressure, lineup changes, and limited production, Tucker delivered the kind of clutch hit Los Angeles expected when it signed him.
More importantly, his first walk-off hit with the Dodgers may signal the beginning of a much-needed breakout.
