Chicago Sky Trade Angel Reese to Atlanta Dream for Two First-Round Picks
The Chicago Sky have officially traded two-time All-Star forward Angel Reese to the Atlanta Dream. In return, Chicago will receive Atlanta’s first-round picks in 2027 and 2028, along with the right to swap second-round picks in 2028.
Angel Reese’s Impact and Career Stats
At just 23 years old, Angel Reese has already established herself as one of the most dominant players in the WNBA. She led the league in rebounding during both of her first two seasons. Reese averaged 13.1 rebounds per game in 2024 and followed that with 12.6 rebounds last season—both historic marks.
Across 64 career games, Reese has recorded 49 double-doubles. She also averaged 14.1 points, 12.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.4 steals per game in her first two seasons after being drafted seventh overall out of LSU in 2024.
Why the Chicago Sky Made the Trade
Chicago Sky general manager Jeff Pagliocca explained that the move is part of a long-term strategy.
“This trade is designed to achieve roster balance and represents a great opportunity for all parties.”
He also praised Reese for her early achievements and contributions to the team, wishing her success in the next chapter of her career.
Atlanta Dream Strengthen Their Roster
The Atlanta Dream are coming off a strong 30–14 season, the best record in franchise history. Adding Angel Reese brings a dynamic presence to their lineup.
General manager Dan Padover emphasized Reese’s value:
“Angel is a dynamic talent and a perfect fit for what we are building in Atlanta.”
Reese also expressed excitement about joining her new team and continuing to develop her game while competing at the highest level.
Tension During Reese’s Final Season in Chicago
Reese’s departure follows a difficult season for the Chicago Sky, who finished with a 10–34 record. During the season, Reese publicly voiced frustration about the team’s performance and roster quality.
Her comments led to a suspension for the first half of a game in September due to conduct deemed detrimental to the team. She later missed the final four games of the season with a reported back injury and eventually apologized to her teammates.
Conclusion
The trade marks a major shift for both franchises. The Chicago Sky gain valuable future draft assets, while the Atlanta Dream add one of the league’s brightest young stars. Angel Reese now enters a new chapter with high expectations and a chance to compete on a winning team.
