Spain proved once again why they are the best team in women’s football. They defeated Germany 3-0 in the Women’s Nations League Final in Madrid. Despite missing injured star Aitana Bonmatí, Spain remained dominant in every area of the match.
Strong Performance Without Bonmatí
Bonmatí will be out for five months after leg surgery. However, Spain showed great squad depth. Their passing was fast, and their attacking style excited the fans. Meanwhile, Germany struggled to keep up with the tempo.
A record crowd of 55,843 fans supported Spain. This number set a new attendance record for the Spanish women’s national team.
Three Goals in 13 Minutes
Spain created many chances in the first half. Yet, they did not score before the break. After halftime, however, the goals came quickly:
- Clàudia Pina scored first with a low right-footed shot
- Vicky López added a stylish second goal soon after
- Pina struck again to make it 3-0 and seal the win
As a result, Germany lost confidence. They tried to counterattack, but they lacked a sharp finisher.
Putellas Inspired by Fans
Captain Alexia Putellas felt emotional after the match:
“It’s one of the most magical nights of my career. We will keep inspiring young players to follow their dreams.”
Spain have now won three major trophies in two and a half years. In addition, new head coach Sonia Bermúdez earned her first title in less than four months.
Hermoso Returns to Action
The crowd cheered loudly when Jenni Hermoso came on in the 80th minute. She spent months away from the team. Therefore, her return felt very special.
“In the end, hard work brings rewards. We are still the best team in the world,” Hermoso said.
Germany Miss Their Chances
Germany fought well in both legs. However, they failed to convert important opportunities. Their head coach said the match was “evenly balanced.” Even so, a 3-0 defeat was painful.
